Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Gets Yet Another Delay, But There’s Some Good News

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse sets another new release date.

Directed by Brick Eisner from a screenplay by Cory Goodman, Matt Sazama, and Burk Sharpless, The Last Witch Hunter starred Diesel as Kaulder, a former knight cursed with eternal life by the Witch Queen over eight hundred years before the story picks up in the modern day. The film follows Kaulder as he carries out missions on behalf of the Axe and Cross, a clandestine order dedicated to keep the peace between humankind and witches around the world. As the story of The Last Witch Hunter unfolds, Kaulder uncovers a deep-seated conspiracy to resurrect the Witch Queen, whose continued existence ties right back into Kaulder’s own immortality.

The Last Witch Hunter was widely panned by critics upon its release in 2015, with the film being derided as a grim, slow, slogging experience rather than the gritty, action-packed fantasy epic its creators were hoping to produce. As of the time of writing, The Last Witch Hunter holds an 18% “Fresh” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 138 verified critical reviews of the film. Its audience-generated “Popcornmeter” score stands somewhat higher, though it doesn’t fare much better, holding firm at a 44% approval rating as averaged across more than 25,000 user-submitted reviews.

A Brief History of Vin Deisel’s Efforts to Return to The Last Witch Hunter

Diesel has been openly pushing for a sequel to The Last Witch Hunter since as far back as 2020. As recently as 2024, the star was looking back fondly at the role of Kaulder, writing on social media at the time, “I have been blessed to embody so many iconic characters… some universal, and some that only some of you know. It was an honor to bring an immortal to the screen for Lionsgate.” Diesel continued, “someday I will explain where my head and heart was and why the character of Kaulder was so significant to me… it was a powerful moment in my life, as many of you know. Can’t wait until you see where the immortal goes next.”
