Back in 1997, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar were two of the main stars of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Some fans might be surprised to know that the two still have not talked once since that movie was released, even though both were on the red carpet for the new reboot’s premiere.

While nothing had been confirmed, there were some rumors of an apparent feud between Hewitt and Gellar, potentially explaining why the two haven’t been seen together since. Per Vulture, Hewitt confirmed that she still hasn’t seen Gellar in person since 1997, and that they have “not talked” once. However, she denied that it was because of any kind of beef with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star. Hewitt also expressed surprise that such rumors were even going around to begin with.

“I honestly don’t even know what that was or how that all came to be,” Hewitt said about the feud rumors. “I just think people don’t want the narrative to be easy. Why do we always have to be against each other and out for each other?”

Hewitt, who appears in the new film alongside Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., continued, “I haven’t seen Sarah. Literally, we’ve not talked since I saw her at 18 years old when the first movie came out. That’s why it’s so funny to me. People were like, ‘Say something back.’ And I’m like, ‘What am I going to say? I’ve not seen her.’ On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from.”

The rumors had gotten so much attention lately that Gellar was also asked about them, as fans noticed that there were no photos taken of the two together on the red carpet at the new movie’s premiere. Similarly, Gellar confirmed that there are no issues with Hewitt. While both attended the premiere, they had missed each other with the timing, and that’s why they weren’t able to reunite to pose in new photos.

“For everyone asking – I never got to see [Jennifer Love Hewitt] who is fantastic in the movie,” Gellar said in an Instagram post. “I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party. If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online.”

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is playing in theaters.
