Bilateral trade between India and Fiji hits $180M in 2024–25

Bilateral trade between India and Fiji has reached approximately $180 million—in the year 2024–25 and this growing partnership is opening up new opportunities in healthcare, education, and digital services that directly benefit ordinary Fijians.

While speaking during a Business Reception organised by Indian High Commission and the Suva Retailers Association, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says India’s exports to Fiji include pharmaceuticals, machinery, motor vehicles, textiles, and food products while Fiji’s exports — such as wood products, agricultural commodities, and fish — continue to find a place in the Indian market.

He says India has consistently supported Fiji’s health sector, and two of the most exciting initiatives include the construction of a super-specialty hospital and the pharmacopoeia initiative, which he hopes will drive down the price of pharmaceuticals in Fiji.

Kamikamica says as Fiji seeks to strengthen its own health infrastructure, we look forward to expanding cooperation in other areas — including telemedicine, specialist exchanges, traditional medicine, pharmaceutical supplies, and medical technology.

The Deputy Prime Minister also says Fiji welcomes India’s increasing role in the Indo-Pacific region where they see India as a reliable partner in ensuring regional stability, resilience, and prosperity.

Kamikamica says India’s agriculture sector is a major strength, highlighting Sikkim — a state certified as 100 percent organic — as a model Fiji can learn from to develop its own organic farming and secure premium prices for local produce.

Kamikamica further says they are ongoing talks with major Indian hotel investors and hopes that within the next 12 months, a leading Indian hospitality operator will establish a presence in Fiji, potentially transforming travel and connectivity between the two countries.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta says as India continues to make rapid progress across key sectors, they see great potential for Fiji to become a stronger partner in this journey.

Mehta highlighted India’s global reputation as the pharmacy of the world and says that Fiji can benefit from India’s expertise in healthcare delivery, telemedicine, and medical and nursing training.

He also says work on the construction of the 100-bed super-speciality hospital will begin commence soon.

Mehta adds let us boldly advance Indo-Fiji partnership, with everyone playing a key role in strengthening business and innovation ties.
