India’s used car market showed continued digital transformation in the second quarter of 2025, with Spinny reporting that 80% of customers purchased vehicles online, up from 77% in the first quarter. The full-stack used car platform released its Q2 trend report on July 24, highlighting shifts in buyer behavior across channels and regions.
The data indicates that 58% of buyers opted for car financing, reflecting increased adoption of loan-based purchases among salaried professionals, who represent 70% of Spinny’s customer base. First-time car owners accounted for 70% of Q2 buyers, down from 74% in Q1, suggesting more repeat and upgrade buyers are entering the market.
The average buyer age increased from 32 to 34 years between quarters, while women buyers represented 26% of purchases, slightly down from 28% in Q1 but maintaining a multi-year growth trend. Over the past three years, women’s participation on the platform has more than doubled.
Regional patterns showed distinct preferences across cities. Bengaluru emerged as the fastest-growing market with diverse fuel preferences, while Kochi led in home deliveries with over 40% of customers choosing doorstep handovers. Chandigarh recorded the highest share of women buyers at over 30%, and Jaipur had the youngest average buyer age at 31 years.
The luxury car segment demonstrated notable growth in tier 2 cities, with markets like Jaipur, Coimbatore, and Kochi recording over 30% growth rates. The Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes GLA were the most popular premium models, primarily purchased by experienced urban buyers seeking upgrades.
Vehicle preferences showed automatic transmissions accounting for 30% of sales, up from 29% in Q1, with Mumbai leading at 35% adoption. Petrol vehicles maintained dominance at 82% of sales, while cities like Pune and Bengaluru showed growing interest in hybrid and electric vehicles.
Supply patterns revealed that hatchbacks comprised 55% of seller inventory, with Maruti Suzuki models including the WagonR, Baleno, and Swift being most frequently sold. SUVs represented 21% of inventory, led by the EcoSport, Creta, and Brezza, while sedans made up 18% with the Honda City, Honda Amaze, and Swift Dzire as leading models.
The platform’s Net Promoter Score reached 80 in June, and Akshaya Tritiya marked the company’s highest single-day sales with over 800 cars delivered. Preference for vehicles under three years old increased steadily throughout the quarter, reaching 25% in June.
Founded in 2015, Spinny operates 57 car hubs across 22 cities in India and offers a 200-point inspection checklist, five-day money-back guarantee, and one-year warranty on all vehicles. The company expects increased demand during upcoming festivals including Onam and Diwali, along with continued growth in finance-enabled digital purchases.
