TCHS Holds Soccer Camp | News, Sports, Jobs

Campers go through footwork drills while Telma Pool looks on.

The Tyler Consolidated High School girls’ soccer team held its annual summer camp from July 14-17 on the TCHS campus, bringing in a special guest to help lead training sessions.

This year’s camp featured Thelma Ribeiro Pool, owner of Joga Bonito Soccer Training and a seasoned coach with international and collegiate experience. Originally from Salvador, Brazil, Pool has played with semi-professional teams and worked as a youth trainer for a professional club in her home country. She came to the U.S. on a college scholarship, where she continued coaching and developing young players.

During her time in the U.S., Pool has worked with travel teams, served as an assistant coach at WVU Tech, and earned a master’s degree in physical education and health. She has also coached at Parkersburg High School and led the Williamson High School boys’ soccer team for five seasons. In addition, she has organized more than 20 seasonal camps and currently coaches multiple travel teams year-round.

“Thelma was invaluable as our instructional leader, and the girls really enjoyed learning more about the game and the skills required to be successful,” said Tyler Consolidated head coach Megan Campbell.

Camp participants spent the four-day event focusing on skill development, team play, and game fundamentals, with an emphasis on enjoying and understanding the sport.
