Young musicians in tune | Barnsley Chronicle
PRAISED: Pupils Arran Clarke, Nikita Wellings and Harrison Griffiths with staff Susan Sharpe and James Roberts.
THREE pupils at Mapplewell Primary School have been praised for completing their graded music examinations.
Arran Clarke, Nikita Wellings and Harrison Griffiths have all succeeded in their exams.
Headteacher Sam Garrood has praised the trio.
He said: “Six years ago at Mapplewell Primary School we had no pupils singing in the Barnsley Youth Choir and no children had completed a musical grading examination for any instrument.
“Thanks to incredibly passionate staff teaching engaging and exciting lessons and the brilliant support of Barnsley Music Service, music is well and truly thriving at Mapplewell.
“We have multiple pupils like Arran and Nikita who are competing music exams outside of school.
“Harrison has performed at The Royal Albert Hall this academic year and has recently passed his Grade Four examination.
“An incredible achievement before leaving primary school.
“Every day I have pupils coming to tell me about rehearsals and concerts, including multiple pupils who have signed up for Barnsley Youth Choir.
“It has been a complete transformation and something I am beyond proud of.’’
