The Third UN Conference in Avaza to chart paths to further prosperity for landlocked developing countries

Very soon, at the beginning of August this year, Avaza will welcome guests from many countries around the world. As is known, the Resolution to hold the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan was adopted at the 63rd plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on April 11 of this year.

It is worth noting that at that time, 57 countries co-sponsored the Resolution, which is a clear testament to Turkmenistan’s high authority on the global stage and recognition of its role in developing global partnerships. Such support and the significance of the upcoming event indicate that Turkmenistan, as a neutral country, has established close, and most importantly, positive and effective cooperation with specialized UN agencies and the leadership of this reputable international organization. This is also confirmed by the visits of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to our country in 2019 and 2024. In addition, various UN structures operate successfully in Ashgabat, including numerous agency and program offices, as well as regional representations.

As before, Turkmenistan has approached the preparation of this important international event with utmost seriousness and great responsibility. On July 4 of this year, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Decree to ensure the impeccable organization of such a large-scale event – the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries. At the same time, an agreement was signed between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN regarding the organization of the Conference.

The upcoming Conference plans to hold numerous activities covering political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian areas. More than 30 heads of state, including heads of government and UN leaders, are expected to participate. Leaders and representatives of international and regional organizations, legislative bodies, and public associations will arrive in Avaza.

Over five days, conference participants — the developing countries — will adjust partnership relations to implement the planned programs. Substantive dialogue, innovative ideas, collective aspirations, and the exchange of best practices will further unlock the shared potential. It is clear that the path to prosperity and sustainable development for landlocked countries lies in joint efforts, and the conference in Avaza will give even greater momentum to this movement. Experts and specialists believe this momentum largely depends on the development of transport infrastructure and regional integration, as well as on the formulation of sound macroeconomic and trade policies.

There is no doubt that the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries will open additional opportunities to seek solutions and establish partnerships aimed at overcoming challenges and fully realizing the potential of these countries in the interest of a more just and prosperous future.
