UN country coordinator lauds Trade programme
United Nations (UN) resident coordinator Rebecca Adda-Dontoh has expressed satisfaction with the initiatives that Transforming Agriculture through Diversification Entrepreneurship (Trade) programme is implementing in the country.
She said this on Thursday in Blantyre when she appreciated some of the initiatives the programme is running in the district.

Said Addah-Dontoh: “It is impressive looking at how the programme is supporting sustainable livelihood for rural people, starting with production of animal feed to production of biogas, to the milk bulking centre where farmers bring their milk to.
“So we are creating markets and developing infrastructure. The bridges have been built, where farmers are physically connected.”
She said food insecurity is a big issue across Africa and that there is need for Malawi to find alternative measures to address the challenge.
Ministry of Local Government, Unity and Culture chief economics Headwick Banda said it was exciting to note that the programme is complementing the government’s long-term development strategy, Malawi 2063 as well as agriculture, tourism and mining (ATM) strategy.
Trade programme agribusiness and value chain specialist Linda Magombo Munthali said Adda-Donto’s visit was a motivation for them.
“Since the inspection of the programme, there has been good progress as many farmers are now able to diversify but also practise agriculture commercialisation to support themselves,” she said.
Trade programme is running its projects with support from International Fund for Agricultural Development and Opec Fund for International Development.
