Indiatourism Delhi Celebrates Teej Festival, Showcasing India’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Ministry of Tourism brings alive Teej traditions with folk music, mehndi, sweets, and global participation in Delhi.

New Delhi— Indiatourism Delhi, under the Ministry of Tourism, hosted a grand celebration of the Teej Festival at its Janpath office, drawing participation from both domestic and international guests. The event highlighted the vibrancy of Indian culture, traditions, and hospitality, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to promoting the country’s intangible cultural heritage.

Teej, predominantly celebrated in the northern states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, marks the beginning of the monsoon season and commemorates the divine union of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. It is traditionally observed by women through devotional rituals, folk music, dance, and festive attire, symbolizing prosperity and feminine grace.

The celebration at Indiatourism Delhi featured traditional Rajasthani folk performances, henna art demonstrations, and North Indian festive cuisine. Women dressed in vibrant attire with colorful bangles added to the festive ambiance, and the venue was adorned with thematic décor capturing the spirit of Teej. Traditional Indian sweets were distributed to all attendees, enhancing the festive cheer.

Foreign tourists also actively participated, embracing the cultural experience by applying mehndi, savoring Indian delicacies, and enjoying the performances. Their involvement brought a global touch to the celebration and underscored the growing international interest in India’s cultural traditions.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, representatives from State Tourism Boards, and key stakeholders from the tourism sector, including tour operators, hoteliers, travel agents, guides, and artisans. The celebration served as a platform to strengthen cultural exchange, support local craftspeople, and promote tourism through the lens of India’s rich cultural festivals.
