UK tourists will soon be able to travel visa-free to Sri Lanka after a major change was confirmed by the country’s Foreign Affairs Minister.
Vijitha Herath, Foreign Affairs Minister of Sri Lanka, has verified the decision after many months of debate with cabinet ultimately coming to a conclusion on the matter.
A total of 40 countries are impacted by the new rules, which will see fees to enter the country waived. Brits, Americans, Canadians and those from even further abroad will be able to jet to the country with no fear of entry charges.
This decision comes after a policy which covers seven Asian nations was revealed in March 2023, with the announcement from the Sri Lankan government now building on this.

It is hoped the latest decision will urge more tourists to travel to the island, boosting the number of holidaymakers looking to enjoy some sunshine.
The initiative should save Brits a decent amount of money with the application costs and processing time for the visa now being scrapped.
According to the Sri Lankan government, the loss from payments for visas should be compensated by a figure of £49 million gained by the tourism industry.
The date of the change has not been confirmed yet, but this amendment to the rules could really aid the creation of jobs in the country and provide more income for small businesses in the country, GB News said.
This will mean it is not only the Brits which get to benefit from the policy, as it should help the country’s finances grow even further.
Residents from Germany, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and more European countries will also be able to enter Sri Lanka visa-free very soon.

Individuals from Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar will also be able to enter with fees waived in the near future, alongside those from Malaysia, Thailand and South Korea.
Sri Lanka is known as the “pearl of the Indian Ocean,” said to be named after its beautiful settings and pristine beaches, but this name also has a double meaning.
One of its main exports is gemstones, so this name is also incredibly fitting.
Its second name is the “teardrop of India,” named after its shape as an island which is quite literally that – a teardrop.
