Until Dawn Movie Director Announces Filming Wrap With Bloody Set Photo

Sony Pictures’ upcoming Until Dawn movie has received a major production update from director David F. Sandberg regarding the current status of the live-action feature film adaptation. Sandberg is no stranger to the horror genre, after previously helming 2016’s Lights Out and 2017’s Annabelle: Creation.

On Instagram, Sandberg confirmed that production on the Until Dawn movie has officially been completed, after nearly two months of filming. To mark the movie’s production wrap, the filmmaker also shared a new behind-the-scenes photo, featuring a clapboard in front of a very bloody mirror. The project serves as Sandberg’s return to horror, after directing back-to-back Shazam! movies for the past four years. Unlike the first installment, last year’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods sequel received mixed critical reviews, and was also considered a box-office failure after earning a worldwide gross of only $134 million against a reported budget of $110-125 million.

The Until Dawn movie is directed by Sandberg from a screenplay written by Gary Dauberman, who previously collaborated with Sandberg on The Conjuring spinoff movie Annabelle: Creation. It is based on Supermassive Games’ popular interactive horror drama video game, which was first released in 2015. The ensemble cast includes Ella Rubin (The Girl from Plainville), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), Ji-young Yoo (Expats), Maia Mitchell (The Fosters), and Belmont Cameli (Saved by the Bell). The live-action remake is produced by Dauberman, Sandberg, Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. It is a production by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions.

The upcoming adaptation is described as “an R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast.” The original video game centered around a group of eight friends, who reunite in a remote mountain lodge, after a year since two of their friends had gone missing. Soon after, they realize that they’re now trapped at the lodge with a mysterious killer hunting each of them down. As the game unfolds, players will have the chance to control each character in order to solve the mystery surrounding their missing friends, while also trying to evade the killer. The fate of the characters depends on the choices that the players have made for them.

Until Dawn Game Actor Returns in the Live-Action Remake

In addition, Until Dawn game actor Peter Stormare also joined the cast of the live-action remake. In the original, Stormare provided the voice and motion capture for the character of Dr. Allan J. Hill, who’s known as the creepy psychiatrist who serves as the player’s guide throughout the game. However, it’s still unclear if he would also be reprising the character in the remake or would he be playing a new role. Besides Hill, the video game also featured the voices of Hayden Panettiere, Noah Fleiss, Jordan Fisher, Brett Dalton, and Meaghan Martin.

At the time of writing, the Until Dawn movie has yet to receive an official theatrical release date.
