Chrissy Metz on creating a Lifetime movie about her plus-size childhood
‘Lifetime’ is known for its true story-based films, and now Chrissy Metz has one of her own in mind. When asked by our entertainment reporter Courtney Tezeno which part of her life she’d like to see on screen, the actress shared her personal pitch for a potential ‘Lifetime’ movie inspired by her upbringing.
“Probably like a coming-of-age story,” Chrissy said. “Being a big girl from a small town and not fitting in. I had a tumultuous childhood, so I think I never got to see girls who looked like me on TV growing up.”
She adds, “We don’t ever get to see those women sort of at the helm of a project.”
Chrissy Metz has long been a trailblazer for plus-size women, known for her Emmy-winning role in “This Is Us.” Now, she’s adding to her impressive resume with Lifetime’s “Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story.” The film marks part of Lifetime’s first wave of faith-based releases, alongside titles starring Alexa PenaVega, Paula Patton, and Kat Graham. In the film, Chrissy portrays nurse Nichole Jolly, who courageously helped save nearly 100 lives during the deadly 2018 Paradise, California wildfires.
Chrissy says it was an absolute “honor” to portray Nichole’s story and revealed how she first found out she booked the role.
“I was thrilled. I’m so excited that Lifetime not only are they faith-leaning and faith-driven movies, but there are female-driven movies, and we need more of those,” Chrissy shared.
The Emmy winner also co-wrote and sang the song, “Last Day in Paradise,” featured in the Lifetime movie, and she admits it was a “big responsibility.” Chrissy hopes “people feel moved” by the tear-jerking soundtrack.
“This is about loved ones who have been lost, but also, the hope that the town still has, and also what they went through,” Chrissy said. “I was so grateful to be up to the task.”
“Faith in the Flames: The Nichole Jolly Story” is airing on Lifetime now.
