Texas A&M Football Punter Tyler White Named to Ray Guy Preseason Watch List – WTAW

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Texas A&M punter Tyler White was named to the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List, the Augusta Sports Council announced Friday. The award annually honors the nation’s top collegiate punter.

White, a 2024 Ray Guy Award semifinalist, led the nation among freshmen averaging 44.9 yards per punt, while his average ranked fifth in the SEC among punters with at least 45 boots. He pinned 25 punts inside the 20-yard line, including five inside the 10-yard line. Of his 46 punts, only three were returned for a total of 14 yards and six were touchbacks. He boasted a season-long 69-yard boom, which ranked him second-longest in the nation among freshmen and second best in the SEC for all punters.

The Southlake, Texas, native was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after earning SEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors three times. He was also named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week after he wedged four of his five punts inside the 20, while booting three 50-plus yards in Texas A&M’s victory over No. 8 LSU.

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team’s success. In mid-November, the Ray Guy Award committee will meet to select the ten semifinalists. A national body of Football Bowl Subdivision sports information directors, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists to be announced in late November. After the finalists are named, the voting body will cast ballots again to select the nation’s top punter. The winner will be announced live during The Home Depot College Football Awards airing on ESPN in December 2025.
