Burnley ‘Progressing’ With Deal to Sign Newcastle Star

Burnley are progressing with a deal to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Scott Parker’s side recently lost goalkeeper James Trafford, with the English shotstopper making a move to Manchester City. Trafford was a key cog in Burnley’s impressive Championship campaign during the 2024/2025 season, helping the Lancashire club break records in terms of the lack of goals they conceded.

As a result of Trafford heading through the exit door, Burnley will be desperately searching for a new number one. Parker’s side were built on their defensive solidity last season, so it’s imperative that they bring in a competent goalkeeper to replace Trafford. If Burnley are going to stand a chance of surviving in the Premier League, then building solid foundations will be crucial for their chances.

Dubravka has been a solid operator for Newcastle when called upon, but he’s spent a large portion of the last few years playing as a backup goalkeeper. There’s no doubt the Slovakian international has the ability to play as a number one, and Burnley will likely be able to offer him the opportunity to do just that.

Burnley received a significant fee to allow Trafford to head through the exit door, and considering Dubravka’s backup status at Newcastle, you’d imagine they won’t be paying a huge amount of money to bring him to Turf Moor. This will allow Burnley to strengthen in other areas, which will be necessary if they want to survive in the Premier League.
