I review pay of all 42,000 Nvidia employees: CEO Jensen Huang
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang revealed in a podcast that he has a hands-on approach to staff compensation by personally reviewing the pay of every employee at the tech giant.
“I review everybody’s compensation, up to this day, at the end of every cycle. They send me everybody’s recommended comp. I go through the whole company.” The CEO said he examines recommendations for all 42,000 staff, relying on machine learning tools to sort through the data efficiently.
Huang’s methods are about a broader philosophy: “100% of the time, I increased the company’s spend on OpEx [operating expenses]. And the reason for that is because you take care of people, everything else takes care [of itself].”
In the famous tech podcast All In with Chamath, Jason, Sacks & Friedberg, Huang addressed rumors about a secret stock option pool for high performers with a light-hearted joke, but reaffirmed his commitment to fair and competitive rewards.
The Nvidia chief’s comments comes at a time when the company is reaching new heights in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
The company made history on July 9 when its market capitalisation crossed $4 trillion, the first public company in the world to do so.
Nvidia’s initial focus was on developing GPUs for video gaming and graphics-intensive applications. Through the 1990s, it developed multiple series of graphics processors, which won the company strong word of mouth. It led to Nvidia winning a contract to develop hardware for Microsoft’s gaming console, Xbox.
