USTM celebrates cultural carnival on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

Guwahati, Aug 10: The Department of Sociology, University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), organized a workshop cum exhibition on Saturday to commemorate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

The event was a spirited carnival of the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous communities, featuring an immersive experience of art, food, and craft.

USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, graced the celebration with his visit.

The gathering commenced in the morning with a traditional welcome ceremony, highlighting the significance of this day.

Students and faculty members came together to showcase their creativity and cultural knowledge through various forms of expression.

During the event, the talented students exhibited indigenous decorative items and souvenirs, each carrying generations of cultural knowledge and identity, native ingredients and seasonal knowledge were used to prepare traditional dishes, offering a taste of ancestral culinary traditions passed down the generations.

The event provided a respectful space for cultural exchange and appreciation, accentuating the importance of preserving indigenous practices.

In the heat of globalization and cultural erosion, the Department of Sociology, USTM, reaffirmed its dedication to celebrating and revitalizing indigenous art, food, and craft.

These cultural practices play a crucial role in the transmission of identity and pride across generations.
