Henley Passport Index: India’s passport climbs to 75th spot in 2025, highest in a decade – Investing Abroad News
Henley Passport Index: India has moved up eight places from last year and eleven over the past decade in the Henley Passport Index 2025. This year, it is ranked at 77th from 85 last year. The number of countries that Indian passport holders can visit without a prior visa has increased slightly, from 57 to 59. A passport is an ID issued by your country for international travel, while a visa is permission from another country to enter and stay there for a specific time.
As per the list, Asian countries dominate, with Singapore ranked at #1. It has a visa-free score of 193, followed by Japan and South Korea in second place. They have a visa-free score of 190.
The index looks at 199 passports and 227 destinations, giving clear and reliable information about how easily people can travel around the world.
“With historical data spanning 20 years and regularly updated expert analysis on the latest shifts in passport power, the index is an invaluable resource for global citizens and the standard reference tool for government policy in this field,” the report noted. The index ranks countries based on statistics provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Seven EU passports share third place and have a visa-free score of 189. These countries are Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain.
The United Kingdom has slipped from fifth to sixth position from last year, and the passport holders can access 186 countries. The US passport has slipped too, from ninth last year to tenth this year, with access to only 182 destinations.
