Sri Mulyani Hails Sekolah Rakyat as Prabowo’s Breakthrough Against Structural Poverty
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has praised Sekolah Rakyat or People’s School as one of President Prabowo Subianto’s key strategies for addressing structural poverty.
“Sekolah Rakyat is an initiative started by President @prabowo to address structural poverty,” Sri wrote on her Instagram account, @smindrawati, on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
The statement was posted alongside a collage of photos from her visit to the Senior High People’s School or Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Atas (SRMA) 10 in South Jakarta.
In her post, the minister expressed her delight at the opportunity to visit the school and was seen interacting with Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf and several students.
The former Managing Director of the World Bank noted that the children who attend Sekolah Rakyat come from underprivileged families. She explained that most of these students face challenges not only in accessing a quality education but also in meeting their basic living needs.
According to her, students at Sekolah Rakyat receive more than just a formal education. They are also provided with various extracurricular activities to foster their creativity. Additionally, the students are given dormitory facilities, which are intended to provide a supportive environment for their growth, ensure they have proper accommodation and nutritional support, and instill discipline in their daily lives.
Sri Mulyani also stated that the Sekolah Rakyat program will continue to be a government priority in 2026. The government projects that the number of Sekolah Rakyat will increase to 200 units next year, with the student population expected to reach 15,000.
