New Delhi: Tesla has rolled into Delhi-NCR with its second showroom in India, setting up shop at the bustling Aerocity’s Worldmark 3 complex. The opening marks another step in the electric carmaker’s slow but steady expansion in the country, this time targeting the national capital region after debuting in Mumbai earlier this year.
The space in Aerocity is more than just a place to check out cars. Tesla has leased about 8,200 square feet here for nine years, starting with a monthly rent of ₹17.22 lakh. According to CRE Matrix data, the rent will climb by 15 percent every 36 months, showing Tesla is planning to stay for the long run.
Model Y hits Delhi roads
The launch is backed by the company’s most popular model, the all-electric SUV Model Y. In Delhi, the rear-wheel drive version is priced at ₹61.06 lakh and offers a claimed range of 500 km. The long-range variant, which is also rear-wheel drive, costs ₹69.14 lakh and can go up to 622 km on a full charge. Both versions have a top speed of 201 kmph, which is quick enough for Indian highways, even if you’ll rarely get to test it in city traffic.
Tesla is selling the China-manufactured Model Y in India, slotting it into a premium space that still has fewer players compared to the more crowded entry-level EV segment. For enthusiasts, the Model Y’s cabin design follows Tesla’s usual minimalist style with a central touchscreen, and the boot space is generous for an SUV of its size.
Charging network plans for Delhi-NCR
Tesla is also setting up its charging network to support buyers in the region. Four locations have been earmarked — Saket and Aerocity in Delhi, Golf Course Road in Gurgaon, and one spot in Noida. The plan is to install a total of 16 superchargers and 15 destination chargers across these points. This will make Delhi-NCR the second metropolitan region after Mumbai to get Tesla’s fast-charging network.
Registrations now open nationwide
While Tesla originally opened customer registrations in Mumbai, Gurgaon, and Delhi, the company’s website now accepts registrations from all states. Priority, however, still goes to buyers in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and Gurgaon. This could help Tesla gauge demand across India before expanding showrooms and charging facilities further.
Why Aerocity makes sense for Tesla
Aerocity is a high-footfall zone that connects the airport with central Delhi, making it a prime location for a premium car showroom. With upscale restaurants, hotels, and corporate offices nearby, Tesla’s choice of location looks aimed at visibility and easy access for potential customers in both Delhi and Gurgaon.
For now, the big question will be how quickly Tesla can adapt to Indian driving conditions and infrastructure. The roads here can be unpredictable, and EV charging speed and availability often decide whether a buyer takes the plunge. But with the Delhi showroom now open, the ball is in the court of curious buyers, and Tesla’s sales team.
