Independence Day 2025: Traffic restrictions across Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad; what commuters need to know |
Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2025, traffic police in Gurgaon, Faridabad, and Delhi have announced strict restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles and road access to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security. Read all details to plan your travel accordingly in the coming days.
Traffic restrictions in Gurugram
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi from Gurugram during two specific periods, from 5 PM on August 12 to 1:30 PM on August 13. This restriction will be in place for the full-dress rehearsal. Also from 5 PM on August 14 to 1:30 PM on August 15, traffic restrictions will be in place for the main Independence Day event. Drivers are advised to use the KMP Expressway when travelling to other states or districts and to park vehicles only in designated areas.
Traffic restrictions in Faridabad
Faridabad will see a complete ban on heavy vehicle entry towards Delhi from 10 PM on August 12 to 2 PM on August 13 and again from 10 PM on August 14 to 2 PM on August 15. Restricted routes include Badarpur Border, Prahladpur, Karni Singh Shooting Range, Surajkund Gol Chakkar, Durga Builder, Mangar Chowki Naka, Dera Fatehpur, Sector 30 Cut, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Sikri, NH-19 (Palwal Road), and Elson JCB Chowk, among others.Exemptions have been granted for vehicles carrying essential supplies such as milk, fruits, vegetables, medicines, medical supplies, fuel, as well as for fire services, ambulances, police, and other emergency services. Special permissions issued by the government or administration will also be honoured.Traffic police will enforce the restrictions and violators will face strict action under the Motor Vehicles Act. Delhi traffic plan for August 13 and 15
As the Independence Day ceremony is held at the Red Fort, with the Prime Minister addressing the nation, a full-dress rehearsal is scheduled for August 13, during which traffic restrictions will be in place between 4 AM and 10 AM around the Red Fort. Public safety advisory
Residents and visitors are advised not to carry cameras, binoculars, handbags, umbrellas, matchboxes, water bottles, tiffin boxes, and other prohibited items to the event areas. Unmanned aerial vehicles, drones, para-gliders, microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, and similar objects are banned over Delhi from August 9–15, 2025.
