Tripura to Recruit Tourist Guides, Expand Tourism Circuit: Minister Sushanta Chowdhury
Agartala, August 12, 2025: Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that the state will soon recruit tourist guides and seek additional central funds to boost tourism infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration of the construction and development project at Chotta Khola Park in South District, the minister highlighted the state’s two-pronged approach—creating new tourist destinations with central assistance and upgrading existing attractions.
“We have invested over ₹4 crore to renovate Chotta Khola Park, which symbolises the bond between India and Bangladesh,” Chowdhury said. “Earlier, the park lacked basic facilities. Now, we have built roads, a cafeteria, children’s play area, parking spaces, and toilets to ensure visitor comfort.”
The minister revealed plans for a tourism circuit connecting Chotta Khola Park with Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, Dham Dhipa, Pilak, and a proposed tourism hub at Ludhua Tea Estate, to be developed at a cost of ₹30 crore. Coordination with the district administration and forest department is already underway.
Chowdhury noted that foreign tourist arrivals have grown, with over 7 lakh visitors recorded last year. Encouraging local youth to open homestays, he said the government also plans to build log huts and cottages at Chotta Khola. Tourist guide recruitment will follow to help visitors better understand the historical significance of each site.
The minister further informed that beautification work at Tripura Sundari Temple has been completed, awaiting inauguration, and a ₹162-crore park project in Jirania assembly constituency is in the pipeline. “Our goal is to generate employment and bring more central funds to strengthen the tourism sector,” he added.
