Yifei Xue, an internationally-recognized audio engineer, sound designer, and composer, has established himself as a leading figure in contemporary music and audio production, acclaimed for his innovative work at the historic recording studio The Power Station and across global music and art platforms.

Since 2022, Xue has served as a Lead Audio Engineer and Producer at Power Station, which is part of BerkleeNYC and one of the world’s premier recording studios where legends of the music industry have recorded, including some of the biggest names in jazz such as John Scofield, Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, and Herbie Hancock, as well as Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and James Taylor, to name a few. At Power Station and BerkleeNYC, Xue oversees an array of distinguished recording projects. Among his notable achievements at Power Station, Xue worked as an Audio Engineer for a live concert recording featuring the Grammy-nominated Berklee Indian Ensemble at the Black Box, BerkleeNYC’s acclaimed theater. The ensemble, known for its international tours and high-profile Grammy nomination, has been featured in outlets such as CBS and NPR. Xue’s role was instrumental in delivering the production value that characterized this headline event at a venue frequently covered by national publications, including SonicScoop and Mix Magazine.

At Power Station / BerkleeNYC Xue also helmed the “Friday Concert Series” at the Black Box in 2022, a series noted for spotlighting distinguished American artists and further affirming the theater’s reputation for quality and innovation in live sound production. In 2021, he also served as Lead Music Producer and Audio/Mixing Engineer on Michigan-native Karissa Bone’s single, “Maybe in the Summer.” The track, was selected by FADER Magazine as one of their “College Creative” songs of the year, receiving critical acclaim and supporting Bone’s expanding presence in the American music industry.

Xue was the Lead Audio Engineer and Music Producer for Heesu’s single “Me.” The recording was recognized by NPR as Massachusetts’ top entry in the 2021 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, a nationally celebrated event that highlights international emerging talent and distinguished recording artists. Demonstrating his versatility, Xue also co-composed and engineered the “Flumen” Sample Pack for ADSR Sound. ADSR is recognized in the industry for its high-quality production tools and educational resources, and Xue’s contribution involved music composition, sound design, audio engineering, and mixing, further cementing his standing in the field of audio production.

Further showcasing his compositional and technical expertise, Xue has collaborated since 2024 with acclaimed multimedia artist Zoe Juang on the art installation “Self-Doubt,” which will be exhibited at New York’s Dia: Chelsea museum from 2026-2027. As Lead Composer, Audio Engineer, Mix and Mastering Engineer, and Sound Designer, Xue has been credited with developing original music and sound design for the exhibit, a role covered in national publications such as Canvas Rebel.

Looking ahead, Xue is set to take on a central role in theatrical music production as Lead Audio Engineer, Music Producer, and Lead Electronic Music and Sound Design Supervisor for Off-Broadway and Japanese productions of “Poupelle of Chimney Town” from 2025 to 2028. The musical, based on Akihiro Nashino’s best-selling book and composed by Ko Tanaka, has already seen critical and commercial success in both Japan and the U.S., including at New York’s Pershing Square Signature Center, where it made its Off-Broadway debut in 2024. Xue will oversee the recording, engineering, composition, and sound design for both American and Japanese performances of the acclaimed show.
