Delhi Traffic Advisory: Delhi commuters are being urged to plan their journeys with care on Sunday, 17 August 2025, as extensive traffic restrictions will be in place across several parts of the city. The advisory comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Rohini Sector 37, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II (UER-2) – a much-awaited project touted as a game-changer for the Capital’s connectivity.

Road Closures and Restrictions

Authorities have announced that UER-2 will remain closed throughout 17 August. Key stretches such as Rohtak Road from Peeragarhi to Tikri Border, and several connecting roads towards UER-2, will also be off-limits. Major roads including Bhagwan Mahavir Road, Bawana Road, Kanjhawala Road, Kanjhawala Link Road, and Badsha Dahiya Marg are expected to face heavy restrictions.

Traffic curbs will remain in force between 6:00 am and 2:00 pm. Residents and commuters are strongly advised to avoid these stretches and opt for alternative routes.

Restrictions for Commercial Vehicles

Commercial vehicles will not be permitted on the Tikri Border–Peeragarhi stretch of Rohtak Road. Instead, they will be diverted via Tikri Border, Ghewra More, Mundka Red Light, Nangloi Chowk, Bakkarwala More, Jharoda Road near Bahadurgarh Flyover Toll, and further through Bahadurgarh to UER-2.

In the Rohini area, trucks and heavy vehicles will not be allowed on routes coming in from the Ring Road. Divergent points include Madhuban Chowk, Deepali Chowk, Mahadev Chowk, Kali Chowk, Wazirpur Depot, Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar, NH-44/UER-2, and Kabutur Chowk among others.

Special Route Advice

For smoother travel, police have suggested alternatives:

Tikri Border → Peeragarhi: Avoid Rohtak Road; instead, take Jharoda–Najafgarh–Nangloi Road.
  • Peeragarhi → Tikri Border: Head via Nangloi–Najafgarh–Jharoda.
  • Rani Khera → Tikri Border: Use Nangloi–Najafgarh Road to Jharoda.
  • Rohini residents: Opt for K.N. Katju Marg, Rohini Jail Marg and parallel roads.
  • Similarly, travellers from Mukarba Chowk/Madhuban Chowk towards Nangloi have been told to bypass UER-2 and Bhagwan Mahavir Marg, instead taking Rohtak Road via Peeragarhi.

    Commuter Instructions

Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to plan their journeys in advance and consider using the Metro to avoid disruptions. Only event participants will be allowed access beyond Kali Chowk on Bhagwan Mahavir Marg. Officials have also urged motorists to remain patient, follow diversions, and cooperate with police on duty.

For real-time updates, commuters can track Delhi Traffic Police advisories on traffic.delhipolice.gov.in, social media platforms, or via the WhatsApp helpline 8750871493.

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate UER-2 at 10:30 am in Rohini, Sector 37, marking the opening of a major corridor connecting Delhi with Bahadurgarh, Sonipat, Alipur, and Dwarka Expressway. The Rs 11,000 crore project is expected to cut travel time significantly — promising to reduce a 40-minute commute to IGI Airport down to 20 minutes.

With the event being billed as a “gamechanger” for Delhi’s road network, Sunday is likely to be a day of both celebration and congestion. Residents are advised to plan wisely and stay updated to avoid unnecessary delays.
