Nicole Kidman’s Steamy New Movie Is Quietly Dominating the Global Streaming Charts

Halina Reinj’s Babygirl starring Nicole Kidman is officially making a run at the streaming charts.

Per FlixPatrol, 2024’s Babygirl has made its way onto the list of the top ten movies currently available for streaming on HBO Max. Although Babygirl still has a long way to go before it catches up to the likes of Final Destination Bloodlines, which currently dominates the top spot by nearly doubling its closest competitor’s streaming numbers, Babygirl isn’t far off from overtaking more evenly-paced competition such as Dev Patel’s Monkey Man and 2012’s Erased.

Written and directed by Halina Reijn, best known for directing 2021’s breakout horror hit Bodies Bodies Bodies, Babygirl stars Nicole Kidman as Romy Mathis, a high-powered CEO of a robotics firm who is disillusioned with her romantic life, particularly with regard to her and her husband Josh’s sex life. Soon enough, Romy enters into a sexual relationship with one of her company’s interns, Harris Dickinson’s Samuel, which causes Romy no small amount of grief due to her conflicting emotions. Over the course of the film, the relationship between Romy and Samuel escalates to the point of threatening not just their careers, but Romy’s marriage as well.

Babygirl premiered in 2024 to largely rave reviews from critics, appearing on twenty separate lists of the best films of the year across a variety of major industry publications. Babygirl was also nominated for nearly thirty separate major industry awards, of which it won eight in total. The film currently holds a 76% “Certified Fresh” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across more than 270 verified critical reviews of the film. At the box office, Babygirl was a resounding success, bringing in more than $64.6 million against a $20 million budget.

Fans are currently eagerly awaiting Kidman’s next silver-screen appearance in the form of Practical Magic 2, a sequel to the 1998 original that will see Kidman and co-star Sandra Bullock reprise their iconic roles as Gillian and Sally Owens, two wildly different sisters who once held wildly different opinions regarding their heritage and legacy as witches. The long-awaited sequel will be based on another of author Alice Hoffman’s novels, this time 2021’s The Book of Magic, which serves as a direct sequel to 1995’s Practical Magic. Alongside Kidman and Bullock, Practical Magic 2 will also feature the returns of fellow original stars Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing in the roles of Bridget and Frances Owens, Sally and Gillian’s aunts who, like the film’s leading sisters, have vastly different personalities. Practical Magic 2 is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Sep. 18, 2026.

Babygirl is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
