Moín Container Terminal exported and imported 37 million tons of products
The commitment to boost Costa Rica’s international trade is reaching significant milestones from the country’s most important port, the Moín Container Terminal (MCT).
As part of the sixth anniversary of APM Terminals Moin’s operation of the port, 2024 closed with positive figures, reaching 37 million tons imported and exported, of which 15,118,656 were imports and 22,525,423 were exports, demonstrating the efficiency with which MCT operates.
In addition, the company moved 1,320,000 20-foot containers (TEUs) in 2024. In its six years of operation, it has moved 7.3 million TEUs.
In our work and management, since MCT began operations, we have been very clear about our task, which is to place the country’s trade on the world stage, with operational efficiency, quality service, and effectiveness. Today, we can say that Costa Rica’s production is present throughout the world. Achieving this type of milestone focuses us on continuing to promote international trade to contribute to the economy of this country and its people,” explained José Rueda, managing director of APM Terminals Moin.
In terms of movements, from its opening until December 2024, MCT carried out 2,743,567 exports and imports (1,390,726 and 1,352,841, respectively). Thus, 2024 has been the year with the most movements in the six years of operation, accounting for 645,653.
In terms of the number of ships served, APM Terminals Moin received an average of 83.42 ships per month in 2024, meaning that 6,048 ships have been served since operations began.
“2024 was a challenging year, and we demonstrated that our operational capacity has increased, which fills us with pride. For the coming years, we are challenging ourselves with new goals. We are working on a robust modernization and optimization plan that will allow MCT, which handles 85% of exports, to stand out and position Costa Rica as one of the countries in Latin America with one of the best ports,” said Rueda.
These milestones reflect the positive impact of APM Terminals Moin on Costa Rica’s economy and foreign trade. With increasingly efficient and modern operations, the terminal reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the country’s competitiveness in international markets.
