Egypt welcomes UN road map for Libya crisis settlement

Egypt has welcomed the road map presented by UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Libya, Hanna Tetteh, before the Security Council, describing it as a genuine opportunity to restore stability in the country.

In a statement on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry voiced full support for the initiative, particularly its proposal to form an interim government tasked with preparing presidential and parliamentary elections within 12 to 18 months.

The ministry stressed that sticking to this timeframe is vital to ensure the credibility of the political process and to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and development, through a comprehensive electoral path that unites state institutions under a single authority.

Egypt also reiterated its backing for UN-led efforts to restore security and extend sovereignty across Libyan territory, affirming its commitment to support any political path that safeguards Libya’s unity and territorial integrity.
