The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and the Los Alamos Mountaineers (LAM) invite the public to a special hybrid presentation, “Tree Climbing for Science and Conservation,” from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025.

The talk will take place in person at the Los Alamos Nature Center and will also be available virtually via livestream.

Admission is free, but registration is required to receive the livestream link or reserve an in-person seat.

Presenter Judah Epstein, a passionate volunteer with the Tree Monkey Project, will share incredible stories from his work using tree climbing as a tool for scientific research, habitat preservation, and community empowerment. His global experiences include supporting Orangutan and Sun Bear conservation in the rainforests of Borneo, training Indigenous communities in Ecuador in canopy access techniques, and installing wildlife “monkey bridges” to aid animal movement across fragmented landscapes in Costa Rica.

Attendees will also hear about Epstein’s involvement in the Arizona Gray Hawk Project, and his direct action work countering illegal logging and poaching in the Peruvian Amazon. Through dramatic visuals and personal stories, Epstein will show how professional tree climbing is opening new pathways in wildlife conservation and fostering meaningful collaboration with local communities around the world.
