Delhi-NCR weather: Moderate showers expected today, wet weather set to persist until Monday
Delhi experienced moderate rainfall on Saturday, with several areas witnessing high-intensity showers in the evening. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that rainfall activity is likely to continue until Monday.
On Saturday, the IMD issued a red alert in the late evening, warning of intense rain and its possible impacts. Citizens were cautioned about water accumulation on roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas, closure of underpasses, occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall, traffic disruption, slippery roads, damage to plantations, partial damage to vulnerable structures, and minor damage to kutcha houses, walls, and huts. Safety advisories included avoiding travel if possible and not taking shelter under trees.
Rainfall measurements from the city’s key stations on Saturday morning and afternoon (8.30 am to 5.30 pm) were as follows: Safdarjung – 24.8 mm, Palam – 16.5 mm, Lodhi Road – 27 mm, Ridge – 9.6 mm, Ayanagar – 34 mm, Pragati Maidan – 3.2 mm, Pusa – 13.5 mm, Najafgarh – 7.5 mm, and Janakpuri – 5 mm.
High-intensity rain was recorded towards the late evening (5.30 pm to 8.30 pm) in many parts of the city. Safdarjung received 10.8 mm, Palam 8.4 mm, Pragati Maidan 18.5 mm, Pusa 12 mm, Mayur Vihar 23 mm, Najafgarh 5.5 mm, and Janakpuri 3.5 mm.
Saturday’s temperatures saw a slight variation from the norm. The maximum temperature was 35.1°C, slightly higher than the previous day’s 34.8°C, while the minimum temperature dropped to 25.7°C from Friday’s 26.2°C. Humidity levels ranged between 65% and 100%, and the peak wind speed was 6 km/h from a south-westerly direction.
