New Delhi: A huge ruckus broke out at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday evening after students protesting against the Staff Selection Commission’s (SSC) Phase 13 Selection Post recruitment exam refused to leave beyond the permitted hours. Officials reported that over 15,000 protesters had gathered, with around 100 refusing to end the rally for the day. It led to a confrontation between the SSC aspirants and the police, resulting in the detention of nearly 44 students. Meanwhile, the police reportedly requested the students initially to stop the protest beyond the permissible time.
In a series of footage from the protest site, aspirants seemed to have a confrontation with police officials. Delhi is witnessing a strong protest by SSC aspirants, who accuse the administration of a flawed selection process. The SSC sarkari exam started on July 24 and was supposed to end on August 1. It was scheduled to be conducted in a computer-based test (CBT) format.
What initially seemed like a straightforward process turned controversial after students alleged administrative lapses, technical glitches, and poor conditions at examination centres.
“Exams Cancelled Without Notice, Students Sent to Far-Off Centres”
People protesting, including teachers and coaching tutors, said that some students were given exam centres 400 to 500 kilometres away from their homes. After spending a lot of time and money to travel there, many students were shocked to find that their exams had been cancelled without any warning.
“Aspirants are being sent to far-flung locations, only to discover the exam is cancelled on arrival. At one centre, we found cattle housed on the ground floor while students were attempting the test upstairs. Bouncers have been placed at several centres to silence candidates raising genuine concerns,” said a protesting teacher, speaking to PTI.
