Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce to host second Sabah-China Expo in November | Daily Express Malaysia

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) will be hosting the 2nd Sabah-China Expo this November at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
The event will bring together enterprises and institutions from China and across ASEAN to showcase products, innovations, and collaborative projects, with the aim of deepening trade and investment ties.

SCCC President Datuk Frankie Liew made the announcement during a joint exchange session with business leaders and representatives from Ganzhou, Jiangxi Province, China, and a delegation from Anxi County, Fujian Province.

“Both Sabah and Ganzhou are accelerating development, and we see enormous potential in industrial complementarity, resource sharing, and market expansion,” said Datuk Frankie.

“We welcome our Chinese partners to work hand in hand with us, seize opportunities, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes.”

Datuk Frankie highlighted that since its establishment, the SCCC has been dedicated to promoting economic and trade cooperation, driving bilateral investment, enhancing cultural exchanges, and serving member enterprises.

Over the years, the Chamber has led delegations of members and local businesses to multiple provinces and cities in China to explore opportunities in trade, investment, and industrial partnerships.

He noted that Sabah holds promising potential in electrical equipment, scrap metal recycling, and trade in mechanical and electrical products and parts. The recycling of scrap copper and magnetic steel in particular is experiencing high demand, with Sabah’s strategic location and strong port facilities offering competitive advantages for trade.

“Sabah is located at the heart of ASEAN and serves as an ideal gateway to Indonesia, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, and beyond,” Datuk Frankie explained.

“Coupled with the China–ASEAN Free Trade Area, this opens vast opportunities for regional market expansion.”

On energy and power, he added that Sabah is not only a key oil and gas hub for Malaysia but is also emerging as a player in green energy, clean energy, and renewable energy.

“The state government is actively upgrading power infrastructure and promoting new energy development. We hope this creates rich opportunities for Chinese enterprises, including those from Ganzhou. If needed, we are ready to facilitate connections with relevant ministers and government agencies,” he assured.
Ganzhou and Anxi Delegations Express Interest

Wu Cheng, Section Chief of the Business Division at the Ganzhou Municipal People’s Government Representative Office in Xiamen, thanked Datuk Frankie and SCCC for their warm hospitality.

“Under globalization, China’s manufacturing sector is experiencing overcapacity, while Malaysia still has many opportunities. This makes our economies highly complementary,” Wu said.

He also emphasized Ganzhou’s global position as a major rare earth resources hub, ranking sixth worldwide. The delegation expressed interest in importing iron sand and scrap copper from Sabah to meet China’s growing demand.

Also present were William Ooi, President of Kota Kinabalu Hardware, Machinery & Building Materials Traders Associations, Sabah and Edwin Chen, President of the Sabah Scrap Metals Recycle Association, who both welcomed further cooperation with Jiangxi enterprises to expand business opportunities.
