World Bank approves $47.9m for primary education

LAHORE  –  Aug 25 The World Bank has approved a $47.9 million aid package aimed at improving primary education in Punjab. The funding will focus on promoting enrollment, re-integrating out-of-school children, and strengthening teacher support systems. This aid follows an earlier approval in June 2025, when the World Bank’s Executive Board sanctioned $150 million for primary education initiatives across Punjab, targeting both boys and girls.According to a World Bank statement, around 7 million children remain out of school in Punjab. The new funding is expected to benefit 5 million children, along with 7,000 headmasters and 165,000 teachers. World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, Naji Benhassine, emphasized that the project aims to enhance educational quality and student performance.

He confirmed that the funds would be released soon, after which the implementation phase of the project would begin.
