Jack Eichel attending U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp
Jack Eichel will undertake a pressure-free trip this week.
Eichel is one of 44 players invited by USA Hockey to attend the U.S. Men’s Olympic Orientation Camp in Plymouth, Mich.
The players, representing 24 National Hockey League teams, represent many of the nation’s top players.
The gathering Tuesday and Wednesday includes no formal on-ice activity, and Eichel doesn’t have to worry about making a good impression – he’s one of six players guaranteed a spot on the 2026 U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team.
USA Hockey previously announced that the Vegas Golden Knights center will represent his country next year.
Also guaranteed a spot are forwards Austin Matthews (Toronto), Brady Tkachuk (Ottawa) and Matthew Tkachuk (Florida), and defensemen Charlie McAvoy (Boston) and Quinn Hughes (Vancouver).
The final 25-man roster is expected to be announced in early January.
The 6-2, 205-pound Eichel is coming off a season in which he pocketed career highs in assists (66) and points (94). He has tallied 608 points in 616 career regular season games in the NHL, with 43 points in 40 career playoff games.
Eichel led Vegas to the 2023 Stanley Cup championship, registering 26 points in 22 playoff games.
Eichel isn’t expected to be the only U.S. Olympian with local roots. Winnipeg Jets star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is coming off a season in which he was named the Hart Trophy (NHL MVP) and Vezina Trophy (top goalie) winner.
Hellebuyck is considered a near-lock to represent his country in Italy.

Rollins takes 11th: After teams checked over their mounts following Friday’s Yvon Bedard 109, the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour readied for another 125-lap affair Saturday night as part of the 52nd annual All That’s Metal Oxford 250 weekend in Oxford, Maine.
While several teams could not return after Friday’s showdown, 37 teams joined in for Saturday’s headlining event.
Longtime Hudson, Lee and Star Speedway standout Geoff Rollins, a Groton resident, started quickly, while Jimmy Renfrew, Jr., D.J. Shaw and Trevor Sanborn surrounded him at the start of the 125-lap main event.
Rollins led lap one but it was very quickly the Renfrew-show out front as Friday’s winner, Gabe Brown, launched to the outside groove from a 14th-place starting spot for the long run ahead.
Rollins drove to 11th place. Finishing in 29th place was Joey Polewarczyk of Hudson, N.H.
