Tom Alexander joins Oliver Wyman as senior advisor

Professional services firm Oliver Wyman has appointed a new senior advisor in its consumer, telco, and technology practice. Tom Alexander brings deep experience in M&A and operational leadership to the firm.

Oliver Wyman is a management consulting firm, with offices in over 70 cities across 30 countries, and employing more than 7,000 professionals globally. The firm has been rapidly expanding, adding more than $1 billion to its annual take from pre-pandemic levels, jumping to $3.4 billion over the past five years.

As the company looks to build on this momentum, it has welcomed another seasoned advisor to its ranks. Tom Alexander brings deep expertise at the intersection of technology and business strategy to the firm, as well as a track record of leading transformative initiatives across the telecom sector.

Having overseen several major mergers in the sector, after France Telecom bought Orange he was brought onboard as CEO, where he built on the success of the business transformation and the need for scale efficiencies. He also developed a strategy to merge Orange and T-Mobile, which he led with the integration of the two businesses to form the UK’s largest operator EE, where he served as the inaugural CEO.

Elsewhere, Alexander founded Virgin Mobile, after persuading Sir Richard Branson to back his plan for the brand, eventually leading to its flotation and subsequent sale to NTL, which formed Virgin Media.

Alongside his role as senior advisor in telco and technology at Oliver Wyman, he will continue serving as a board member of various organisations.

Speaking on the importance of his work, Alexander said, “Telecoms isn’t just about connectivity – it’s about empowering people and transforming lives.”
