Two months and change after releasing, Kpop Demon Hunters is officially “Netflix’s most popular film of all time,” with nearly a quarter of a billion global views to its credit.

That stat comes from Netflix, and specifically the streaming giant’s actively updated consumption-volume database. With 236 million views and counting, Kpop Demon Hunters is currently sitting atop the platform’s list of most-popular English-language movies on a global basis.

Falling to second place is 2021’s Red Notice – an important point given that the resource only accounts for “total views in the first 91 days of release.” If the K-pop film’s momentum is any indication, it’ll pad the consumption lead substantially before the September 19th cutoff here.

And in doing so, the animated project will presumably become the most-viewed Netflix release (not just movie) of all time. Right now, the first season of Wednesday is atop the global English-language TV list with 252.1 million views; Squid Game season one and its 265.2 million views are at the helm of the non-English TV counterpart.

In short: It appears safe to describe Kpop Demon Hunters as a mega-hit and to assume that sequels (with an emphasis on the plural) are forthcoming.

Furthermore, the commercial showing – including solid box-office results from a singalong version – underscores the massive reach associated with K-pop itself.

Admittedly, said reach doesn’t exactly come as a revelation; the mentioned BTS attracted viewers from over 100 countries to its Bang Bang Con pay-per-view performance back in 2020. But it’s certainly interesting to see K-pop media topping the leading video streamer’s charts in the States, Mexico, Finland, Hong Kong, the UAE, and many different nations yet.

(This information comes once again from Netflix, which doesn’t seem to break down viewership by country on a title-specific basis.)

Bringing the focus back to the core music space, we previously noted that Republic was cashing in on the Kpop Demon Hunters action thanks to a JV with Visva Records, the Savan Kotecha-founded label behind the film’s soundtrack.

Meanwhile, the fictional group at the film’s center, dubbed Huntr/x and featuring vocals from real-life talent Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami, has racked up an astonishing 46.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Still sitting atop the platform’s Top 200 Global chart, “Golden” has managed to surpass 422 million on-platform plays.
