‘Building the Band’ Winner 3Quency Signs With Records and Columbia

Girl group 3Quency, the winners of Netflix’s Building the Band, have inked a record deal with Records in partnership with Columbia Records, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The first release of their newly signed deal will be the group’s debut single, “Top Down,” set for release next week and was produced by Tommy Brown. The three-member group consisting of members Brianna Mazzola, Nori Moore and Wennely Quezada took to social media to share the news of the single Wednesday morning.

“We are so excited to be signed with RECORDS/Columbia Records, especially because that’s what we’re prepared to drop. New music is coming and we couldn’t be happier to share what we’ve spent the last year working on,” 3Quency the group told THR in an exclusive statement.

“We immediately felt the love from the team and felt like we were at home,” the girl group said in a release about signing with Records and Columbia Records. “Our goal was to build a girl group on the foundation of sisterhood. Our bond makes 3Quency what it is, and we can’t wait for everybody to hear ‘Top Down.’ It’s just the beginning.”

The girl group was formed through the Netflix reality show, which boasted host Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean and a celebrity panel of Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger, Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland and the late Liam Payne of One Direction. The premise of the show was to take 50 musicians and build six groups, sight unseen.

“What we realized when we looked at the U.S. Billboard charts and [bands] are just not there. And obviously One Direction were huge, and Little Mix were huge here in the U.K., but there hadn’t really been a breakthrough American band for a really long time,” Cat Lawson, managing director of the show’s production company Remarkable Entertainment previously told THR about the show’s creation.

3Quency is being managed by Johnny Wright, who helped spark the careers of Justin Timberlake, *NSYNC, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, having collaborated with Records founder Barry Weiss in the launching of those careers. Helen Bromfield is co-managing the group with Wright.

“Top Down” is set to be released Sept. 5 and is available to pre-save now.
