The UConn field hockey team is set to face fellow Big East rival Old Dominion, followed by a matchup against Fairfield, No.2 in the Northeast Conference, this weekend. Both games carry high stakes for UConn. The Huskies currently sit at a steady tie of 17-17, accumulated throughout all seasons with Old Dominion. UConn will be looking to break this tie and come out on top. As for Fairfield, the Huskies sit 11-0, having never lost a game to the Stags. This game will be an opportunity for UConn to prove that they can maintain their winning streak.

Old Dominion is known for its fast breaks and high number of shots on goal. When facing these strengths, the Huskies will have to call on their strong defensive line. The Huskies will look to senior Sol Simone. As a midfielder, Simone guides both offense and defense, having won Big East Midfielder of the year and NFHCA Third Team All-American in the 2024 season. Joining Simone on defense will be sophomore back Milou Heueker. As a freshman, Heuker started in 19 of the 21 games last season.

Fairfield brings a separate set of challenges. With a solid defensive line and reliable goalkeeper, the Stages look to test the Husky’s aggressive offense. But UConn comes prepared, equipped with senior Julia Bressler. Bressler started in all 21 games in 2024, ending the season being awarded to the Big East All-Tournament team and honored as Big East Offensive Player of the Week. In the 2025 season alone, Bressler has already accumulated a high of 80 minutes played in a single game against Yale and six shots and two goals in the matchup against Providence. Pien Prins also joins the offensive line. In her first game, Prins secured two goals and accumulated three goals in the first two games of her college career.

Fairfield and Old Dominion serve up some serious competition of their own. On the offensive line, the Fairfield Stags feature senior forward Konni Hofmann. In her 2024 season, Hofmann secured 19 points with five assists in over 21 appearances. Hofmann also earned a spot on the NEC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. On their defensive line, Fairfield turns to junior defender Noor Hellemans for support. Last season, Hellemans started in 13 of the 15 games she appeared in, posting four points in those matches. She is also on the NEC Commissioner’s Fall Honor Roll for the 2024 season.

Turning to Old Dominion, the team carries a strong offensive line with redshirt senior midfielder Sian Emslie. Emslie started in 16 out of the 18 games she played last season and recorded 11 goals with three assists. Most notably, she secured a hat-trick against Providence and two against Georgetown within a six-day period. On the defensive line, Old Dominion features sophomore defender Serena Langendon.  During the last season and her first season as a collegiate player, Langendon started in all 18 games and scored seven goals and one assist, recording a total of 15 points. At the end of the 2024 season, Langendon was named to both the All-Big East Second Team and NFHCA 2024 South All-Region Second Team.

With a chance to extend their record over Fairfield and feed the fire of their rivalry against Old Dominion, the Huskies are set to enter a momentous weekend of matchups.
