President Droupadi Murmu Honors Public Sector Enterprises with SCOPE Eminence Awards 2023, ETGovernment

New Delhi, August 29: President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the SCOPE Eminence Awards at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The event was organised by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) with the support of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), Ministry of Finance.

The ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, Secretary of DPE K. Moses Chalai, Chairman of SCOPE K. P. Mahadevaswamy, Director General of SCOPE Atul Sobti, senior government officials, top leadership of public sector enterprises (PSEs), and representatives from partner organisations in India and abroad.

In her address, President Murmu said that the SCOPE Eminence Awards celebrate the significant contribution of PSEs to the country’s development.

She praised their performance across social, economic, environmental, technological, and ethical parameters, and commended SCOPE for recognising excellence in areas such as women empowerment, sustainable development, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and innovation.

She underlined that the public sector has been a key driver of economic development and social inclusion, expressing confidence that Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) will play a crucial role in achieving the national goal of building a developed India by 2047.

<p>President Droupadi Murmu at presentation of SCOPE Eminence Awards</p>President Droupadi Murmu at presentation of SCOPE Eminence AwardsHighlighting their role in national missions, the President noted that during Operation Sindoor, the indigenous Air Defence Control and Reporting System – Akashteer – showcased its robust capabilities, reflecting the sector’s contribution to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat and the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary observed that PSEs have evolved into strategic players in nation-building, demonstrating resilience and consistent performance even during crises.

DPE Secretary K. Moses Chalai said CPSEs continue to drive growth and socio-economic development while providing direct employment to around 1.5 million people and indirectly supporting millions of livelihoods. He stressed that in today’s competitive environment, CPSEs must consistently perform and innovate to remain relevant.

SCOPE Chairman K. P. Mahadevaswamy emphasised that PSEs have facilitated sustainable development and continue to enjoy public trust. He added that SCOPE plays a catalytic role in capacity-building, aligning the sector with global goals of excellence, and ensuring a supportive policy and business environment.

Welcoming the President, SCOPE Director General Atul Sobti highlighted that public sector enterprises have transformed into globally competitive institutions that contribute significantly to India’s socio-economic progress. He said SCOPE remains committed to strengthening the fraternity and acting as a catalyst for a self-reliant, prosperous, and equitable India.
