Nigerian national residing illegally shifted to detention centre: Delhi Police

Delhi Police on Saturday shifted a Nigerian national, who had been living illegally in India, to a detention centre. The house owner who sheltered him has also been booked for harbouring, officials said.

According to police, during a routine patrol in Nilothi Extension, they received a tip-off about an illegal foreign national hiding in a house in Chander Vihar.

Acting on the information, a police team accompanied by the informer reached the location, where the informer identified the suspected house.

A senior officer said that when the raid was conducted, the foreign national attempted to escape but was promptly apprehended.

On questioning, the man identified himself as Chukwuebuka, a Nigerian national.

“When asked for his travel documents, he failed to produce a valid passport, visa, or any supporting papers and admitted that his visa has expired,” the officer said.

The accused has since been placed in the Detention Centre at Sewa Sadan, Narela, pending deportation proceedings.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Nihal Vihar police station under Section 14(c) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, against the house owner for illegally harbouring a foreign national.
