New R-Rated DCU Film Set Image Hinting at Robert Pattinson’s Batman Gets Honest Reaction from James Gunn
As more images surface from the set of Clayface, fans believed they are closer than ever before to learning more about the DCU version of Batman. The R-rated body horror film written by Mike Flanagan has generated rampant speculation as of late, but it seems some of that has paid off with another major hint at the Dark Knight. Or at least, that is how it seemed at first.
A new photo from the set of Clayface appeared to reveal a Batman symbol placed on a Gotham City dumpster. The logo design is identical to the one featured in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Although it was noted that a fan could have put the sticker there, that didn’t stop many fans beliveing that this could be the best sign that Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne does have a place in Gunn’s new universe. At least, that was until Gunn stepped in to shut down the idea.
Gunn has said on several occasions that the Robert Pattinson version of Batman is not from the DCU. Still, it is hard what to believe on the internet, especially as set images keep rolling in. Fans had previously spotted mentions of the party drug called “bliss,” which was introduced during HBO’s The Penguin, set in Reeves’ Batman franchise. Much of Clayface is also being filmed in the same locations as the 2022 film. However, it seems that all of this is just nothing but coincidence.
‘The Batman – Part II’ Star Praises Matt Reeves’ Script
It may have taken longer than some expected, but Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin finished the screenplay for The Batman – Part II earlier this summer. Since then, the script has been slowly but surely dispersed among the confirmed cast members. Colin Farrell was the most recent actor to comment on the work, which he had a chance to read. While teasing his limited role as Penguin in the sequel, Farrell had high praise for the finished script. “I haven’t got much to do on it, just a little bit. I read the script and it’s extraordinary,” the actor stated. He is set to return in The Batman sequel alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.
As the cast continues to heap praise on The Batman – Part II script, it’s been reported that the film is looking to begin production in early 2026. Pattinson is currently busy with Dune: Part Three as the new big bad, but the Caped Crusader should have ample time to prepare for the DC sequel. Part II is set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027, a few months after James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, releases theatrically as well. Even though The Batman is not a part of the DCU, it seems DC Studios wants their most popular heroes on the big screen within the same year. Is that a coincidence? Probably not, but the idea of merging the two universes will remain closed off until Reeves or Gunn says otherwise.
