• 60 YEARS AGO — Gerry Clark of Brandon won the Wheat City Open golf tournament with a 71 from rounds of 37-34. There was a record field of 137 competitors.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Cam Jones hit a triple, double and single, and pitched his Dairy Queen mates to a 22-11 victory over Maher Shoes in West End peewee baseball playoff action.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Carman Goldeyes claimed the Manitoba senior baseball championship with a 9-3 win over Souris Cardinals. Brian Reid hit a three-run homer, while Gord Leduchowski and Hank Lemoine belted solo shots.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Kelly Smart scored three goals for the Brandon Wheat Kings as they defeated the Regina Pats 6-5 in a pre-season Western Hockey League game.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon native David Bonk has signed a professional contract with the ECHL’s Columbia Inferno, the club announced. Bonk, 23, made his pro debut last season with the Motor City Mechanics of the United Hockey League, scoring 15 goals and notching 26 assists in 66 games.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Carter Maurice scored six touchdowns as the Westman Wolverines topped the Greendell Falcons 40-24 in their Manitoba Minor Football Association’s peewee division game.
