Air India Express joins IATA, strengthening global connectivity, ETTravelWorld

Air India Express has officially joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA), marking an important milestone in its growth journey. The membership underscores the airline’s focus on aligning with international standards of safety, operations, and customer experience, while reinforcing its ambitions to strengthen its global footprint.

IATA represents around 350 airlines from more than 120 countries, covering over 80 per cent of global air traffic. To qualify for membership, airlines are required to successfully complete the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which involves compliance with more than 900 standards across various operational parameters. Air India Express has maintained IOSA registration since 2017.

Welcoming the airline, Sheldon Hee, Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific, IATA, said: “We welcome Air India Express into the IATA family. Air India Express has been on the IOSA registry since 2017, and we are glad that they have taken the next step to become an IATA member. Having Air India Express as a member broadens the perspectives that we can bring to the global issues affecting our industry.”

Aloke Singh, Managing Director, Air India Express, commented: “Becoming a part of the IATA family is a proud moment for us. It highlights our commitment to enhance our global standing, assuring our guests of world-class standards, and facilitates access to global partnerships. As we continue to grow our footprint, IATA membership is an additional step taken by Air India Express to ensure that every journey is supported by the highest standards of reliability, safety, and convenience.”

The membership will allow Air India Express to participate in IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plans (BSP) worldwide, enabling wider distribution through accredited travel agents and extending its international reach. Travellers can expect enhanced reliability and smoother connectivity as the airline contributes to shaping global standards and policies.

Air India Express currently operates a fleet of 115 aircraft, offering over 500 daily flights to 41 domestic and 17 international destinations, including key markets in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. The IATA membership further strengthens the airline’s position as one of India’s fastest-growing carriers, expanding opportunities for global connectivity underpinned by internationally recognised standards.
