The US State Department’s decision includes the sale of MK 54 MOD 0 Lightweight Torpedoes, valued at $175 million, and has been officially certified by the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), notifying Congress on October 7, 2024.

The Biden administration’s decision to approve the sale demonstrates the significance the US places on its defence partnership with India. By enhancing India’s naval defence arsenal, this deal is seen as a critical move to help India counter both present and future regional threats, particularly in the Indo-Pacific.
