KOTA SAMARAHAN (Sept 25): Seven Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) lecturers have been included in Standford University’s World’s Top 2% Scientists list.

They are Prof Dr Balbir Singh Mohan Singh (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences), Prof Dr Jedediah Brodie and Prof Dr Indraneil Das (Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation), as well as Assoc Prof Dr Ahmad Kueh Beng Hong, Assoc Prof Dr Md Rezaur Rahman, Assoc Prof Dr Ivy Tan Ai Wei, and Dr Yiin Chung Loong (Faculty of Engineering).

Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit said the recognition reflected the university’s commitment to nurturing internationally recognised educators and researchers.

“This is part of our aspiration to ensure that our graduates not only acquire knowledge but also develop extensive research experience, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.

According to him, the achievement underscores Unimas’ significant contributions to the global scientific community and its dedication to impactful research and innovation.

Ahmad said he hoped more Unimas academics would attain similar recognition in future.

The World’s Top 2% Scientists list is published annually by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.

It identifies the most influential researchers worldwide based on a composite citation index that measures the impact and reach of their scholarly output.

The selection methodology, introduced in 2019, evaluates factors such as total citations, h-index, and performance in high-impact research.

It serves as a key benchmark for the international scientific community in acknowledging outstanding contributions across a wide range of disciplines.
