A revolution to India – Maldives connectivity
IndiGo, India’s leading airline, is set to expand its international network with the launch of daily direct flights between Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and Malé, the capital of the Maldives. Beginning October 26, 2025, the new service will make Thiruvananthapuram the fourth Indian city—after Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kochi—to enjoy direct air links with the Maldives.
The move reflects IndiGo’s commitment to affordable and convenient travel, catering to both leisure and business passengers. Operated with ATR aircraft, the flights promise a reliable, comfortable, and cost-effective journey across the Indian Ocean.
Boosting Access for Travellers and BusinessesThe Maldives has long been a preferred destination for Indian tourists drawn to its beaches, resorts, and marine life. By offering a direct link from Kerala’s capital, IndiGo eliminates the need for connecting flights, making travel faster and easier for South Indian travellers.
Beyond tourism, the new route also supports growing business relations. With increasing trade and investment between the two nations—particularly in hospitality and tourism—the service will streamline travel for entrepreneurs and professionals alike.
Strategic and Economic SignificanceThe launch comes at a timely moment, aligning with the recent expansion of Velana International Airport in Malé. With upgraded facilities to handle more international traffic, the airport is ready to accommodate increased arrivals from India, one of the Maldives’ top source markets for tourism.
For the Maldives, the influx of Indian visitors will further strengthen its tourism-driven economy. For Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram’s positioning as a new international gateway enhances the region’s visibility, while stimulating local economic activity through tourism and aviation-linked opportunities.
Strengthening Bilateral TiesIndia is consistently among the largest contributors to tourist arrivals in the Maldives. IndiGo’s new service is expected to deepen these ties, making travel more accessible, flexible, and affordable. At the same time, it will provide vital connectivity for business and investment exchanges, underlining aviation’s role in reinforcing people-to-people and economic links.
Flight ScheduleFrom October 26, 2025, the service will operate daily:
