Vivo is Finally Changing The Software Experience of its Global Devices For Good

Funtouch OS is the native operating system for Vivo and iQOO phones in global regions. However, in China, the company uses OriginOS, which wasn’t extended to other markets. Funtouch OS has been subject to widespread criticism, mainly for lacking a more modern look compared to the likes of One UI or OxygenOS. If this was stopping you from getting a Vivo phone, here’s some good news you may have been waiting for. Vivo has just announced that it’ll finally replace it with OriginOS 6 in the global region.

Vivo will replace Funtouch OS with OriginOS 6 globally

The company will introduce a new OriginOS 6 version, which will be based on Android 16, at an event on October 15th, 2025. “Get ready for a smoother, smarter experience as we enter a new era of mobile OS,” said the company on X. With this, the company is finally unifying the Android software experience across China and global regions, including India. However, it hasn’t teased the features that’ll be coming to the new OriginOS 6 version yet.

Vivo customers are not a fan of Funtouch OS, mainly because it’s inferior both in terms of aesthetics and features in comparison to OriginOS, which has been exclusive to Vivo phones in China.

This will unify the software experience

OriginOS is reportedly smoother with fluid animations. It apparently feels more refined with no bugs and bloatware, which wasn’t the case with Funtouch OS. This brought down the whole experience of using a Vivo phone, which otherwise boasts impressive hardware, especially the cameras. OriginOS, in China, doesn’t come with Google Play Services. However, that won’t be the case with the global version, obviously.

The Vivo OriginOS 6 global version could bring new AI features, a completely new interface, and much more. The new version is likely to power the Vivo X300 series and iQOO 15 flagships.
