The Ba***ds Of Bollywood Case Update: Delhi HC Permits Sameer Wankhede To Amend Complaint | Web Series

A fresh update on Sameer Wankhede’s defamation case against The Ba***ds Of Bollywood makers such as Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix and others has come. The Delhi High Court on Friday (September 26) questioned the IRS officer over the maintainability of the complaint and allowed him to amend it. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav has asked Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, who represents Wankhede, about the cause of action.

The court has asked Sameer Wankhede to explain how his defamation suit against the makers of The Ba***ds Of Bollywood is maintainable in Delhi. Sethi said, “Web series is meant for across cities, including Delhi. Memes are against me qua people in Delhi. Your plaint is not maintainable. I am rejecting your plaint. Had your case been that look I’ve been defamed at various places including Delhi and max damage is in Delhi, we would have still considered here.”
The Delhi High Court judge has allowed Sameer Wankhede to amend the complaint. The pursuant to this court said, “Having considered sec 9 of CPC and facts that the plaintiff in para 37 and 38 has not properly made averments as to how civil suit would lie here in Delhi.” After the court’s directions, the representative of Sameer Wankhede has sought some time from court to make some necessary amendments.
The court further stated that it is not going to any date as the Registry will give the date once the plaintiff application is listed. Red Chillies Entertainment’s senior advocate Harish Salve and Netflix’s senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi are representing the mentioned companies in the case. The suit names the following as defendants: Red Chillies Entertainment Private Limited, Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPG Lifestyle Media Private Limited and John Doe.
For the unversed, Sameer Wankhede has sought Rs 2 crore as damages, which he will donate to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital for the treatment of cancer patients. In the suit, the IRS officer sought a permanent and mandatory injunction against the production house and others for allegedly showing ‘false, malicious and defamatory video’ in the series. Wankhede also mentioned that the Netflix series was ‘deliberately conceptualised and executed’ with an intention to malign his reputation, especially when his and Aryan Khan’s case is pending and sub judice before the Bombay High Court and the NDPS Special Court.
Sameer Wankhede also accused the makers of showing his character making ‘obscene gestures’, especially ‘showing a middle finger’ after reciting the slogan ‘Satyamev Jayate’.
