With an emphasis on research and development (R&D), he highlighted how Zoho is investing heavily in creating innovative, high-quality products to take on global competitors like Microsoft.

India’s “Swadeshi” Tech Push:

Vembu’s remarks are not only about challenging Microsoft but also align with India’s growing emphasis on self-reliant tech solutions. The Indian government’s push for local alternatives has garnered attention, particularly after India’s IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced his shift to Zoho’s “Swadeshi” productivity platform. Vaishnaw has urged others, including Prime Minister Modi, to follow suit and adopt homegrown solutions.

This political endorsement has given Zoho an extra boost, positioning the company as a key player in India’s tech sector and beyond. Vembu, in return, thanked the minister, stating that it was a morale booster for Zoho’s engineers and an acknowledgment of their hard work.

In his criticism of global tech giants, Vembu didn’t stop at Microsoft. He also targeted Salesforce, highlighting how a non-profit customer saw a drastic price increase from $5,000 per year to $200,000 per year. Similarly, he pointed out issues with Slack, questioning how the company manages customer impact and pricing. These comments underscore Zoho’s stance as a more affordable and customer-friendly alternative to larger companies in the market.

Zoho’s Path Forward:

Vembu’s claims certainly promise growth but whether Zoho can truly rival Microsoft remains to be seen. Therefore to deliver on its bold promises, Zoho must deliver on several key fronts:
