8th annual Jacob Barker Music Festival kicks off at the AMP

JACKSON, Tenn. — One annual event returns to downtown Jackson to support a good cause.

The 8th annual Jacob Barker Music Festival kicked off it’s first night of music to support patients of Make-A-Wish. Jacob Barker, host of the festival, says his favorite part of the festival is the music and getting his face painted.

“Makes me feel good that other people want to help people in need,” said Jacob.

Each year their goal is to raise $8000 from either donations, participating in the silent auction, or buying barbeque.

“So far so good, you can smell it in the air. It smells very good out here so everybody come down and get you a big BBQ plate,” said Jacob.

Ronnie Barker and his wife both volunteer for Make-A-Wish.

“We won’t know until Make-A-Wish contacts us. They’ll contact us and say ‘Hey we have a wish in your area would you like to be a sponsor?’ So, my wife and I are actually make a wish volunteers as well. So, we do the initial interview, we do the wish reveal party. Once a year we get to be the sponsor so that’s a pretty unique feeling,” said Ronnie.

Along with the fundraising portion of this festival, guests can walk over to the car show and listen to good music.

“We have Skylar Anderson, he just got off the stage. Will Burton is taking the stage next and Kelso Mojo will be after that. Her’s closes the night tonight so it’s gonna be a fun night full of music,” said Ronnie.

The Barkers say they’re thankful to everyone for showing up Friday night. Day 2 of the festival continues on Saturday, starting at 3 p.m.
