It’s October and we are thick into spring. Whether you’re swamped with exams or still getting into the swing of things, don’t forget to take some time to relax.
Fortunately, lots of great music has dropped this month, along with some great films.
So, curl up and give local music a listen or treat yourself to some local films currently showing on various platforms.
Musician Maria Immanuel, popularly known as ML Musik, has released a single titled ‘Askies’, featuring multitalented artists such as Exit, Nash, Wizdom and Interface music.
The song is currently receiving great airplay on different platforms, with the track’s views currently at 21 000 in just 10 days.
R&B crooner Yeezir Abel, Kalhi, Ms Gideon and DJ Castro also dropped a collaborative single titled ‘Hold On’.
Meanwhile, DJ Spuzza’s track ‘Shootah’ is enjoying massive airplay on radio, and with the number of views now at 405 000.
Award-winning songbird Daphne Willibard, popularly known as Oteya, is slowly making a comeback on the Namibian social scene.
She is not only planning a one-person show, but will be releasing an album titled, ‘Shades of Me’, which she describes as one of her best bodies of work.

The upcoming album was recorded at Nautilus Studios at Swakopmund.
In a promo video on various social media platforms, Oteya says she put her heart and soul into the upcoming album and is ready to entice music fans locally and internationally.
“The energy around it was positive and I think my fans are going to love this project and the new sound we have created. I think the future does look bright. We sat down with the team, as this time we wanted to record in another studio, and we recorded at the best studio in Namibia,” she says in the video.
The album will feature international artists with a vision of penetrating into a broader market.
The musician has been in the industry for 20 years now and has released songs such as ‘Watagwan’, ‘Am Gobe’, ‘Di Matta’ and ‘Amen’.
Meanwhile, renowned rapper La-Toya Mwoombola, better known as Lioness, also made a strong return with the release of her sizzling single ‘Pull Up’, released a few days ago.
Apart from the single, the musician recently announced a release party for her upcoming album, ‘If Not In This Life’.
The single is, however, the second instalment from her third studio album. It will be launched next Friday.
On the album launch invites, she describes the album as a true labour of love and creativity, capturing her journey and growth as an artist.
She says each track is a unique blend of melodic rhythms and rhymes, enriched with an experimental and vibrant cultural tapestry of Namibian music.
Louise Shilongo
Model and rapper Louise Shilongo, popularly known as ‘Snazzy’, recently announced that she’s back on her Instagram account.
Although she has not released any new music yet, she has hinted that good music is definitely on its way.
Rapper Reeziana Naris dropped the single ‘Tatanic’, which you should definitely consider adding to your playlist.
Seems like its rapper’s season, as we listen to another banger from rapper Phatboy Lutor which was also recently released.

Prime-Rose is a Namibian-born and raised singer-songwriter who launched a new album titled ‘Found’, as well as the single ‘/Nai Ta Go Mi’.
Recently, MultiChoice Namibia held a successful film festival premiering Africa’s most-loved storytellers’ projects.
The film festival delivered fireside chats with producers and M-Net commissioning editors, the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) with MTF alumni, and packed sessions on advertiser-funded programming with the commissioning editor for general entertainment at MultiChoice.
A few of the films, such as ‘Op Pad Met My Potjie’ and ‘Dubbel Moeilikeid’ aired on kykNET on DStv and GOtv.

On the other hand, during October, a brand-new Namibian documentary also showed on kykNET (DStv channel 144 and GOtvchannel 15). The documentary, ‘Eden’s Guardian Angels’, looks at the extraordinary trajectory from wildlife crisis to conservation victory.
The compelling film takes a closer look at Namibia’s pioneering conservation efforts and introduces the viewer to dedicated guardians of three conservation areas across the vast and pristine country.
Through their eyes, we see the urgent plight of the world’s most traded mammal, the pangolin and the last remaining, free-range black rhinos, a species that is still under serious threat.
