The Shepherd University School of Music wants prospective students to know what they offer by experiencing life as a music major.

On Monday, Oct. 14, the “Be a Music Major for a Day” event returns, with high school juniors and seniors, college transfer students and adults interested in pursuing music invited to spend a day on campus to see what it’s like first-hand.

The School of Music developed the event to give more perspective on their programs than virtual tours and flyers can provide.

“Be a Music Major for a Day” begins in the Frank Arts Center, where participants can sit in on actual music classes and lectures, meet faculty members and current music students and watch live rehearsals and performances.

Dr. Scott Hippensteel, professor of music and director of instrumental studies, believes that this event is an invaluable opportunity.

“I encourage anyone considering a career in music to join us for a day of transformative experiences,” Hippensteel said. “They will engage directly with the School of Music community and discover what makes Shepherd University a unique and welcoming environment for aspiring musicians.”

The event concludes at 4:30 p.m. Parents and guardians also are invited to attend and learn more about what students will experience.

Anyone interested in the “Be a Music Major for a Day” event can register at or email music@shepherd.edu.
